Frequently Asked Questions

What are the advantages of taking classes online?

Online classes aren’t for everybody. Some people just prefer the traditional classroom. However, online classes offer some really unique benefits. These benefits should allow people who might not normally be able to get a degree to attend college.

Choosing online classes could:
  • Lower your overall spending costs
  • Allow you to pace your speed of learning
  • Help you develop a stronger sense of self discipline
  • Release the limitations based on location
  • Offer you a huge variety of available courses

Whether you want to study from the comfort of your bedroom or increase your computer skills, online classes could be a fantastic option.

What are the most common challenges that online learning presents?

There’s no doubt that studying online is a very different experience to studying in a classroom setting. Online learning may be new and different for you, but it allows you to take the courses you need to earn the degree you want—all in a supportive and convenient setting but there are also challenges associated with it such as:

  • Distractions and time management
  • Adapting to unfamiliar technology
  • Technical issues
  • Staying motivated
  • Understanding course expectations
  • Lack of in-person interaction

Even if you’re facing challenges, managing your time wisely and focusing on your goals are great ways to stay on track to accomplish what you want to get out of your program.

How do I choose an online college?

Selecting a college or university to complete your online degree can be tricky and overwhelming. There are a lot of things to consider when trying to choose what is the best fit for you. We have created the following list of simple tips for choosing an online university that meets your educational goals!

  • Research accredited colleges and universities, as not all institutions are created equal. Learn more about accreditation on the U.S. Department of Education website https://www.ed.gov/accreditation.
  • Decide on and find your major. Be aware that not every university offers all majors and not all are available online.
  • Verify the program and classes are offered fully online. Some degree programs are a combination of online and on campus classwork. If you can’t travel, make sure the program offers the entire degree completely online.
  • Keep an eye out for fees above tuition costs. These can include course fees, textbooks, course materials, labs, examination proctoring and online delivery fees.
  • Ask about the faculty credentials. Who is teaching the online courses? Are the same faculty who teach on campus teaching online?
  • Find online student services. Online students can’t walk into a campus office and ask for help. Make sure the institution has services and resources available specifically for online students.
